  • WEEKLONG CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

SHOW IN A WEEK: We’ll start in an empty room. By week’s end, students will present a cohesive one act play that they have created and developed with their director.  If a theme is indicated in the title, students will learn techniques from that discipline and incorporate them in their show.  Each Show In a Week session ends with presentation for families and friends to enjoy.

WRITE A MUSICAL: Help us write a musical for BCT’s fall season. Students will work with a professional composer and lyricist to create a musical which will be produced in our 2020-2021 season. A workshop-style reading of the musical will take place on the last day of class. Please note, this is not a performance class. Students will be writing and brainstorming in a collaborative, group setting.  The week ends with a reading of the show for friends and family.

KID/TEEN CABARET:  In this class, students will learn about acting, singing and dancing technique by putting together their own original cabaret performance.  Students will rehearse and perform solos and small and large group numbers.  The camp will culminate in a performance at the studios or Brooklyn Music Factory (August sessions only) for friends and family.

IMPROV INTENSIVE:  Think fast! Students will learn acting through improvisation, playing games, and creating scenes from scratch working with a professional improvisor.  Session ends with an improv show displaying the students’ work from the week.

CLOWNING/PHYSICAL COMEDY INTENSIVE: We’ll explore physical comedy techniques in a fun and playful atmosphere with Big Apple’s Circus’s own Cassidy Dermott!  Session ends with a clowning show displaying the students’ work from the week.

ACTING BOOTCAMP:  In this acting intensive, students will be introduced to several acting techniques and methods, then apply that knowledge to monologue, song, and scene study.  Students will also participate in dance, movement, and stage combat workshops, gaining a better understanding of their bodies in space and on stage.  The week ends with a presentation of scenes and songs for friends and family.
