Brooklyn Children's Theatre @ PS 179

  • BCT @ PS 179

    Winter 2017 - Spring 2018

BCT at PS 179 is supported by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. The Community After School Adventures (CASA) grant was designated to BCT at PS 179 through Council Member Brad Lander. Thank you to DCA and Brad Lander for allowing us to create musical theatre with the children at PS 179!

PLEASE NOTE: This program is only open to students who attend PS 179.

    This past season,

We had 19 students, one 3rd grade intern, and one 5th grade intern in our Production A class (1st – 2nd grade), 21 students and one 7th grade intern (a former PS 179 student) in our Production B class (3rd – 5th grade), and 17 students and one 6th grade intern (also a former PS 179 student) in our Technical Theatre class (3rd – 5th grade). The production classes performed two original musicals: an adaptation of The Lion and the Mouse (Production A) and a play written by one of our summer Playwriting classes (which also included some PS 179 students), The Circus Surprise (Production B). The Technical Theatre class designed and constructed set pieces, props, costumes, and a backdrop, as well as doing beautiful face painting on the actors. Some Theatre Tech students even appeared on stage during the performances!
