Mission & Vision

About Brooklyn Children's Theatre

  • Brooklyn Children’s Theatre brings together children from diverse backgrounds to learn and grow through the collaborative art of musical theatre.

    • Nurturing Learning Environment:  At BCT we offer student-centered musical theatre classes taught by professional, experienced teaching artists.
    • Original Material: At BCT we create original, high-quality, relevant musical theatre where the music, content, length and themes are tailored specifically to the children performing.
    • Ensemble: At BCT we employ an approach where each child draws on one another’s talents and strengths while discovering his or her own.
    • Life Skills: At BCT we cultivate confidence, risk-taking, commitment, responsibility and self-efficacy.
    • Fun: At BCT we foster joy and self-expression by engaging children’s imagination and creativity.
    • Diversity: At BCT we build a community of participants that reflects the diversity of New York City.  To this end, we give scholarships to ensure that there is no economic barrier to participation in our programs.

  • We envision a world where all children have access to theatre.

We especially seek the participation of students who have a gift to give the art of theatre who would not otherwise have theater or performance opportunities, due to economic or cultural barriers or lack of resources in their schools and communities. BCT fulfills an underfunded need in which all students are welcome, regardless of their economic situation. No child has ever been refused for an inability to pay.

  • We build an inclusive community.

We aim to create a supportive, dynamic, and inclusive learning community where each child’s individual self-worth, creativity, and talents are celebrated, where each child wants to contribute his or her own unique gifts to strengthen and sustain the vibrancy of this community.
